This painting (now in a private collection in Brookline, MA) is one of a series of imaginary aerial views. While at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts studying painting, we were trekked through the Boston Fenway Victory Gardens. We were told to find inspiration in our surroundings, which were tiny leased patches of ground. Some victory gardens were tidy, well planned, and others amusing, and others chaotic. Less enthralling, were the condoms behind trees, as this was apparently a trysting spot for some, not just the gardeners. This sullied my view of the gardens, so my imagination lifted up and above to where I floated over this incredible patchwork quilt of vegetation and humanity, resulting in a map-like image of what pleased me about the Fenway Victory Gardens. (Better image is being scanned from a transparency, this one was scanned from a greeting card.)
